Social 121, the restaurant-bar in the far north tundra of Plano, has gutted its kitchen staff and is now spiraling downward repositioning itself as a bar with a teensy-weensy “lounge menu.” Diners who tried to eat there at 5 p.m. on Saturday faced a not-very-social locked front door. Chef Jason Skinner confirmed that he and manager Abe Aguirre had been sacked in March by owner Scott Siers.
Top Chef groupies may recall this as the restaurant formerly known as “Loft 610,” where it served as a culinary showplace/autograph depot for hunk-testant Tre Wilcox. Siers bought it in 2010, changed the name to reflect its geographically putrid location on the 121 Tollway, and fired up a daily Happy Hour. Drip. Drip. Drip.
A call placed to Social 121’s special booking agent went unanswered, as did an email to Siers.
